What is MANYC?

Mutual Aid NYC is a decentralized network collective of autonomous mutual aid neighborhood groups across New York City. Participants in MANYC are also working with their local neighborhood groups, and have experienced a strong need for borough-wide and city-wide networks to support coordination and partnership between local groups when crises arise.

It is important that the most vulnerable and hardest hit people can quickly connect with their neighbors and with groups who have the resources to help meet their needs. Mutual Aid NYC is developing a digital and data infrastructure to facilitate the connection between people in need, caregivers and groups providing aid. MANYC supports groups through:

  1. recruiting individual volunteers to aid organizations,
  2. matching locally available resources with individuals, families, and groups to meet immediate and ongoing needs,
  3. increasing group capacity and coordination by connecting neighborhood groups within, and across, different neighborhoods.

What is #Digital-Tech?

We are a group of organizers collaborating remotely to connect existing community-based organizations (CBOs), community leaders, resources, and infrastructures with recent COVID-19 mutual aid efforts. This is not necessarily what we do for a living; we are volunteers as well. We believe in the power of making visible the social and political relationships and networks within communities in order to strengthen them.

What is the #Digital-Tech Mission?

We are dedicated to supporting the technological needs of mutual aid groups by sharing information and best practices.
